Eila’s first language was Finnish, and when she entered kindergarten, she learned English and French. She met her husband of 62 years, Andrew (Andy) Kun, when they were teenagers in Montreal, where they danced the jitterbug.
Eila and Andy married in 1960 and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where they raised their daughter and son. Many days were spent in the fun and sun of Ft. Lauderdale Beach. When her children were school aged, Eila returned to school and earned an A.A. degree in accounting from Broward Community College. She then worked as an office manager for an accounting firm in Ft. Lauderdale. Later, she returned to school to follow her passion and received her B.A. degree in fine arts from Florida Atlantic University. Eila and Andy moved to Naples, Florida, in 1993, where Eila held many “Nannie Camps” for her two oldest grandsons. Eila and Andy retired to Asheville, North Carolina, to be near their son and his family. She, with Andy’s help, took Nannie Camp full time for her youngest grandson until he entered kindergarten. In 2014, Eila and Andy moved to Tampa to be near their daughter and her family.
Eila was fun-loving and could be found dancing around the house to classical music, female jazz vocalists, and Santana. She was also an avid gardener and reader. She fostered the joy of reading in her children with trips to the library and in other students as a school volunteer. Eila was also enthusiastic about running and brought home many trophies from local road races in South Florida. She was proud of her Finnish ancestry; among her most cherished travels were her trips to Helsinki, Finland. Most of all, Eila loved her family dearly, as we loved her.
Eila was predeceased by her parents, Anna and John, and her sister, Kerttu Hill. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Andy; her daughter, Debbie Tozier (Doug); her son, Robert Kun (Sonja); her grandchildren, Garrett Tozier (Whitney), Dylan Tozier, and Zander Kun; her sister-in-law, Susan Kun Turnau; her brother-in-law, Steve Leacock; and her nephews, Jason Leacock and Evan Turnau (Sandra).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Eila’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org or Lifepath Hospice, https://lifepathhospice.chaptershealth.org. A small family memorial will be held at a later time.
