He was born to Barbara Jean and Henry Hoyt Holden, on July 31, 1953, in Elmhurst, Illinois, and spent his childhood in Hollywood, Florida. Growing up, Doug developed a love for baseball, surfing, fishing, and cheering on the Miami Dolphins and Florida Gators football teams.
In the early eighties, Doug relocated to the Tampa Bay area and established Doug Holden Plastering, Inc.; a company he owned and operated with great pride for nearly 40 years. Doug strived to produce a quality product and displayed ethics and morals in his business and personal relationships. His characteristics will leave a lasting impact on the community he served.
Doug had a deep love for the open road and riding his Harley was one of his greatest passions and a hobby he enjoyed with several close friends. He and his friends would often embark on long rides, exploring new and familiar places, and meeting fellow riders along the way. Whether it was riding through the mountains of North Carolina, or attending Sturgis in South Dakota, Doug loved meeting fellow Harley enthusiasts and swapping stories. He also enjoyed fishing, a passion he passed down to his children, and would spend hours on the water waiting for the perfect catch. Doug loved fishing for Mahi in the Florida Keys and won several tournaments throughout his lifetime. Being on the water brought him peace and he cherished the moments he spent teaching his children to fish.
Doug is survived by his beloved children: Courtney Holden, David Holden, Jake Holden, and stepson, Garrett Ketchum. He also leaves behind his mother, Barbara Holden, his sister, Gail Birney, and his brother, Hoyt Holden.
To honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Douglas Bruce Holden, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 6th, from 1-5 pm at the Blount and Curry Life Event Center. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were touched by Doug are invited to come together to share stories, laughter, and tears as they remember a man who lived life to the fullest.
