Dorothy “Dottie” Irene Moore, 73, of Tampa, Florida, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease surrounded by the love of her family July 31, 2021.
Born in Yonkers, New York, on July 28, 1948, Dottie moved to Florida as a young child, graduated from Miami Springs Senior High School, and studied education at the University of South Florida where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. Her love of teaching began at Sacred Heart Academy and she retired from Hillsborough County Public Schools as the principal of Roland Park K-8 School 37 years later. Dottie continued her contribution to education after retirement by volunteering in elementary schools and her passion for growing young minds influenced many to pursue teaching careers of their own.
Dottie was known to go above and beyond for her family, her friends, her colleagues, and her students, and many remember her bright smile and infectious laugh. She loved her beach family and collecting shells on Madeira Beach as much as celebrating WinterFest in the mountains of Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
Dottie’s memory and legacy of love will live on through her daughter Pam (Ben) McCoy, son Robert (Ashley) Moore, and brother Robert (Pat) Fox. She was the most special Gigi to Peyton and Preston McCoy and Jackson and Dylan Moore. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Joseph Moore; her parents, Raymond Richard Fox and Dorothy Fox Kemp; and brother, William Raymond Fox.
A memorial Mass for Dottie will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 2 P.M. at Christ the King Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please bring a children’s storybook to be donated in Dottie’s honor. Memorial contributions may also be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/DorothyIreneMoore.
Her family thanks the remarkable staff and friends of The Estate at Hyde Park and Lifepath Hospice for their loving kindness and compassion over the past four years.
