CURRY, Dorothy Agnes Foster, 94. Dot’s life began on March 22, 1927 in Tallahala, Perry County, MS where she was the youngest of five children born to William Byrd and Gladys Aultman Foster. Beautiful, brilliant, devoted, and compassionate, on December 4, 2021 she left a sadly darkened world for Charles F. Curry Jr, her husband of almost 76 years, son Bryan Wayne of San Jose, California, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. “Datanny,” as she was known to family and close friends, will be reunited with her first-born son Charles Neil in the Palma Ceia United Methodist Memorial Garden and Columbarium.
After completing elementary and high schools in Oral Community and Sumrall, MS she attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Upon her subsequent marriage to Charles they lived in Atlanta while he completed his architectural degree from Georgia Tech. The next few years were spent as Air Force wife in Savannah and Albany, also serving as PTA president.
Tampa became her permanent home in 1961. Her life here had been fruitful and always busy with family, friends, and church. Active in the United Methodist Church at local, district, and conference levels she acted as President of the Palma Ceia United Methodist Women for several terms, circle leader for many more, and on countless committees. At the Tampa Office she complimented three Superintendents as District Secretary for nine years and as Florida Conference Lay Delegate.
In addition to being a published poet and accomplished musician in voice and piano, she was a fun-loving, opinionated, outspoken advocate of happiness and love. Unquestionably, she arrived at the Pearly Gates with list of suggested improvements in hand.
“If you didn’t love her, you hadn’t met her.”
Memorial services will be held at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, 3723 W. Bay to Bay Blvd on Monday, December the 20th at 2:00pm . Visitation and reception will be in Fellowship Hall following the service.
