He was born February 2, 1920 in Panama City, FL to Smithen A. and Mabel G. Ogburn. MSgt Doris Ogburn was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps in Jan.1942, he continued his service with the United States Air Force from Aug. of 1946 until his retirement in Dec.1962. He was a civil servant at Veterans Hospital, Tampa, FL.
He was a Loving Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, WWII and Korean War Veteran and Proud member of VFW Post 4209. He will be remembered for his Faith in God, Love of his Country, Love of Family, all the wonderful stories he shared, his generosity and his clever humor.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ethel Ogburn, daughter Jerri Dee Meek, grandson Walter Terry Ogburn Jr., brothers Leman and “Moog” and sisters Mary Lois and Sally. He is survived by his children Walter Terry Ogburn and Sherry Lou Edwards, his grandchildren Rosemary Hartzner (Mike), Laurie Mahoney (Eddie), Leslie Salamone (John), Jerome Martin, Melissa Mahoney (John), and Casie Dunkel (Doug), his great-grandchildren Jessica, Tommy, Ashley, Danyelle, Trent, Trevor, Macayla, Devin, Kiki, Beckham, Brielle and Cameron, his great-great grandchildren Israel, Jordan, Aria and Kinsley, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at the Garden of Memories, in Tampa, FL. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m.
