He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Victor Knight. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carla; his brother Rick and his wife Val; his sister Ellen and her husband Charlie; his four children and their spouses, Margaret and Tara, Victoria and Adam, Thomas and Gerardo, and Julia and TJ; his two grandchildren, Cian and Clare; and his nieces and nephews.
He was born in Tampa, Florida, on April 14, 1948. David met his beloved wife and lifelong partner Carla when they were captains of the tennis teams at Plant High School. He was a graduate of the University of Florida College of Law and a devoted Gator football fan. He was dedicated to his practice as a litigation attorney and especially proud of the younger attorneys he mentored during his career. He served as Florida Chair and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and Chair of Bay Area Legal Services. When he was not working, David appreciated great food and loved traveling with his children. He spent Saturday mornings walking through the neighborhoods of South Tampa, soaking up the history of his lifelong community. In recent years, he was inseparable from his pig, Arnold. Palma Ceia United Methodist Church was deeply important to David; he served on the Board of Trustees and acted as the church's attorney.
A funeral service will be held there at 10:00am on Monday, June 12, 2023. A reception will follow at Pach's Place at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bay Area Legal Services, Metropolitan Ministries, or Palma Ceia United Methodist Church.
