Birth & Early Childhood
Clorena Christine Bond nee Ebanks was born April 11th, 1940 to Henry A. and Christobel S. Ebanks. She was their 11th child and 5th daughter. She was born in North West Point, West Bay, Grand Cayman.
Christine was raised in a happy home with loving parents and was surrounded and taken care of by her loving and caring sisters and brothers, who were taught by their parents to love, care, protect and respect each other.
She was raised up in the Pilgrim Holiness Church and Sunday school, which is now The Wesleyan Holiness Church. During her early childhood to her late teens, she participated in various Sunday school programs that were presented during Easter, Mothers Day and Christmas. Songs and poems were learned and presented from memory with energy.
She would attend Church during her visits to Cayman from the United States over the years.
During the early days in Cayman, there were no High Schools. Christine attended the Government School from age 7 to 14. She attained a ‘Standard Four’ level of education, which is the equivalent of Grade 8 in the USA. Subject lessons of reading, writing, spelling and math were learned and served her very well throughout her life.
Young Adulthood
Christine grew up to be a beautiful young woman with a very good personality, friendly and willing to compromise to the wishes of others. At the age of 23, she gave birth to her first son Jeff and 15 years later, to her second son Shane. They were her pride and joy and it made her happy that they became successful in their careers as bankers.
During the decades of 1960’s & 1970”s, the tourism industry in Cayman began to grow rapidly with new hotels being built and thousands of tourist flocking to Grand Cayman.
Christine had a very outgoing personality and loved associating with the American tourists. She also loved music and dancing at Galleon Beach and Royal Palms hotels with her close girl friends, Vivia Ebanks (also known as ‘Sugar V’), Alex Haylock, Marie Bush and Roslyn Ebanks (also known as “Meemy”).
Move to the USA
Christine met her soon to be husband William Bond, a US Navy Veteran in Cayman and moved to Brooksville, Florida in 1979. They were married in 1979.
Bill’s profession as a Naval Architect required him to move for work. They moved to New Orleans in 1983 and back to Tampa Florida, in 1985. They eventually settled in Dunedin, Florida in 1993, where she remained until her passing.
Passing
Christine bravely battled several serious medical issues over the past two decades and eventually passed peacefully at 7:45pm EST on Sunday, July 24th, 2016 at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She was 76 years old.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bill, parents, Henry and Christobel, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Jeff, & Shane, their wives Viviana & Blair grandchildren, Keenan, Tatiana, Brooklyn & Carter, brother Elroy, sisters Beulah and Nora and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
