Charles Broughton Williams, 88, passed away on February 10, 2011 in Tampa, FL. He graduated from Plant High School (Hall of Fame) and the University of Florida where he was an outstanding football player. During World War II, he served with the 1111th Engineer Combat Corp, Co. C and was awarded 5 combat stars. He took part in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a high school coach in Lake City before returning to Tampa to establish Broughton Williams School. Broughton was predeceased by his parents, E.K. and Allie Mae Conner Williams and his brother Hub Williams. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara; children Jan, Karen(Harry Kinchley), Jill Hershock, Kim and Chip Williams; grandchildren Peter Hershock, Erin and Keri Kinchley; sister Margaret Baumgartner(Charlie), sister-in-law Vaudine Williams as well as eight nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his friend N.E. McLeod and his nephew Rick Williams. A memorial gathering will take place on Tuesday February 15, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:30PM at Marsicano-B.Marion Reed-Stowers Funeral Home.
