Charles Donald Prosser, 89, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023, after a long illness. He was a true Floridian, born in Fort Myers and a lifelong Tampa resident. He was a proud alumnus of the 1952 class of Hillsborough High School. He joined the Navy after graduation, served on a minesweeper, and enjoyed traveling to many foreign shores. Upon discharge he embarked on a career with the United States Postal Service and retired as a supervisor after 35 years of service. In 1957 he married Peggy Bowers from Spartanburg, SC. She caught his eye while working at a drugstore in Charleston, SC. His life exemplified a strong work ethic, patriotism to a country he loved and taking care of ‘his girls’.
He joined the Hillsboro 25 Masonic Lodge in 1972, was Master of his Lodge in 1978 and faithfully served his Lodge for 50 years. He taught catechism to new Masons and was passionate about passing on the knowledge and traditions of his lodge. He wrote a History of his Lodge which is still used today. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Tampa, and achieved the highest honor of 33rd degree Scottish Rite in 1993. He was awarded Director of Work Emeritus in 2015 for his many years of service to the Scottish Rite.
He was an original season ticket holder for the Bucs and followed them from ‘worst to first’. He was a member of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church of Temple Terrace and enjoyed serving as a Eucharistic Lay Reader until he became ill.
He is survived by his loving wife Peggy of 66 years, his daughters Jennifer Prosser of Durango, CO, Adele Prosser of Tampa and grandson Anthony C Lopez, Jr of Tampa. He is preceded in death by his parents Aubrey and Inez Moore.
A funeral service for Charles will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Interment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at teh funeral home.
