Carol was 81. Carol was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, James F. Powers, daughter Shelley Franco, son Eric Powers, Grandson Seth Franco, parents Edith and Samuel Fox, and siblings Bruce Fox and Denise Sheppard. She is survived and missed greatly by her son David Powers, daughter, Mellissa and her husband Joseph Dayan, grandchildren Jessica Cirino, Devin Powers, Sage Franco, Jacob Dayan, and Arin Dayan and great grandchildren, Cameron, Phoenix, and Gideon.
Carol was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1941 and grew up in greater Boston. She graduated from Brookline High School. She and Jim were married in 1959 and after the birth of their children, they moved to a spacious country farmhouse in the Belmont, New Hampshire area in the early 1970s. Carol took on many roles in the workforce in New England, always working in business or education while Jim was running various construction enterprises. They moved to Tampa, Florida in 1978, and settled in the Forest Hills area of town. In Florida, Carol worked for Seminole Electric and retired from there in the 1990s.
She was the mother of four but took on the maternal role of provider and as a source of unquestioned love for many of her grandchildren, extended family, and the occasional friend in need. Carol was a mother, teacher, provider, and source of guidance to so many. Her generosity and dedication to her family and friends were unparalleled. She treated others with kindness and respect. She spoke up for those who could not speak for themselves. Her outlook on life was always inspiring and influential on those lucky enough to have known her.
Carol loved life and all the wonderful celebrations. Carol and Jim’s home was always a frequent gathering place for the holidays, birthday parties, and cookouts for family and friends. These celebrations often extended late into the evening and are too many to count. The great memories made there will never fade.
Carol leaves behind a loving legacy of caring for and nurturing others. In life, we sometimes neglect to express our gratitude toward others. Carol was an exception. She always made sure that you knew how much she loved you. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but will never be forgotten. We will be celebrating her life with a memorial service on Sunday May 7, 2023, at 3:00 PM, Congregation Schaarai Zedek 3303 W Swann Ave. 33609. Reception to immediately follow.
