Carmen, 89, died January, 2019. She was born on March 18, 1929 in Robert’s City and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating valedictorian of her class. She was predeceased by her son Ricky Smith, her parents Ramiro and Luisa Corces and her sister Olga Chao. Carmen is survived by her children; Gail Smith, David Smith, Vicky Robson (Rick) and Scott Smith. She also left behind grandchildren; Scott Barno (Lizeth), Dr. Brigette Schupay (Conrad), Charley Robson, and Mike Robson, her great granddaughters; Sydney and Avery Schupay, and 3 nieces and a nephew.
Carmen worked for Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Maas Brothers, Eckerd Drugs, the City of Tampa as a payroll clerk, ultimately retiring from the City of Tampa Parks Department. After retirement, she worked as a Substitute Judicial Assistant. Carmen loved to go ballroom dancing. She was a gifted seamstress whose creations ranged from beaded ball gowns to detailed slip covers. She had a passion for good food and was an excellent cook who enjoyed not only her heritage Spanish dishes but also other international cuisines. She was an avid reader, a whiz at a crossword puzzle, and kept up with world affairs. In her latter years, her greatest joy was as “Abuela” to her 2 great granddaughters.
