Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she had been a Tampa resident for decades, primarily in the Town and Country area. She was everyone’s “Abuela” and was a true warrior; she lived by her rules, was strict with whom she loved, yet deeply caring. She profoundly shaped the lives of many.
She was spunky and vivacious; enjoying the “sparkly and shiny” things in life. Her hair, makeup, and nails were always perfectly precise. She was fashionably dressed for all her adventures; traveling, shopping, dining, socializing, and even through hurricanes (not even Hurricane Irma could dissuade her from ensuring she looked pristine).
Preceded in death by Luis Hernandez, her husband of over 60 years, and daughter Maria Betzaida Rodriguez. Carmen is survived by three sisters, four grandchildren; Carmen Garcia, Debra Garcia (Mery Giral), Maria Osornia-Nieves, Zhilma Rodriguez (Dianna Gill & Sergio Calvillo), two great-grandsons; Elryck Leamond, Christopher Guzman, three great-granddaughters; Maria Rodriguez, Summer Silveus, Imajyca Leamond, great-great granddaughter, Elysia Leamond, extended family and friends.
