Bill was born on May 23, 1931 in Fountain Inn, SC of a pioneer South Carolina family that helped shape the upper state. He was preceded in death, by his wife of 63 years, Sybil McElreath Farrow, (who was his partner through this life, and who he cherished dearly); his birth mother Ann Jones Farrow, his father John Ralph Farrow and step-mother Mary Jones Parris Farrow.
He leaves behind 3 sons Steven R. (Sandra) Farrow, David C. Farrow, and Russell; five grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel, Kelsey, Austin and Gracelyn Farrow; and two great grandsons Ryan and Brantly , great granddaughter Olivia, all whom he loved and cherished more than they will ever know.
Bill graduated from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, SC. He attended Wofford College also in Spartanburg, SC earning a BS in Psychology. He earned his Sociology degree from the University of Texas, and a master degree from Golden Gate University of San Francisco, California with additional studies at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
He had a distinguished career in the Military, serving in the occupational forces in Germany in 1950, also while serving in Korea in 1959, he was tasked along with 11 soldiers, to travel to Vietnam, and access the situation to determine what might be needed from an outsiders point of view. Later he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, one in 1966 the other in 1969. He later retired from the army in 1974, and went to work as the operations director for the Dallas and Atlanta Salvation Army.
He loved traveling and camping with his wife Sybil, toured the USA in their motor home, sometimes bringing along their granddaughters.
He held several Chairman , President, Vice President and Board of Director positions with the following. Hillsborourgh Heart Association, Salvation Army, Prevention of Blindness, American Red Cross, Military Officers Association of America(Tampa Chapter), Member Operation Helping Hands, Florida State Campers on Mission.
Bill retired as a US Army Officer in 1974 after 23 years of honorable service.
