1949...Thanksgiving Day...Giessen, Germany. I was stationed there with the 594th Transportation Company...the Army. With no particular plans for the day, a buddy of mine suggested that I join him and go into town for potatoes and schnitzel at a nearby restaurant. On the way to the restaurant , we met two lovely young ladies and one spoke English...Betty! I wasn't looking for a girlfriend...but I knew in my heart that she was special...SHE WAS THE ONE! My life would never be the same and...it just got better!
We were married in 1954 and had 65 wonderful years together filled with great adventures, precious memories and...joy. I loved Betty's German family and friends and my family and friends loved Betty. I called her “Sugar” and she called me “Sugarlump”...sweet endearments. She was very smart, extremely organized, knew what to do and how to do it...she took charge! She even coordinated and selected my daily wardrobe...she didn't want me “looking like a farmer”!
Over the years, we lived in Massachusetts, New York and Florida but living in Germany was always her favorite. With the Army, we were very fortunate to be stationed there on four different tours of duty...totaling 14 years.
Betty had many interests...she was high energy! She enjoyed reading books, playing BINGO, crafting different projects (frames, wrap, deluxe bows, beautiful floral arrangements, etc.), shopping (she was always stylishly attired), going to the beach and her favorite...connecting with family and friends. She truly liked people.
My dearest Betty will always be remembered for her loving and generous nature, her kindness she always extended to others and her warm and beautiful smile. She was sincere. Betty was the reason that my life was “more than wonderful”. She was a wonderful wife and friend. We were so blessed.
I will always LOVE and miss my DEAREST BETTY.
THANK YOU for the BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES...your devoted husband...ALWAYS...
LOVE...FRANK
