Betsy Barron Stagg died peacefully in her sleep on April 16, 2024. Betsy was born in Greenville, SC on August 9, 1938 to Ralph and Anne Barron. She attended the University of Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
In Gainesville, Betsy was an active member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and remained active in alumni activities for many, many years. Most importantly, she met the love of her life, Larry Stagg, and they married in August of 1959.
Betsy spent countless hours with local charities, including Alpha House and Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was named Junior League’s Sustainer of the Year and was Chair of Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park's Karamu event.
Betsy loved bridge, golf, traveling, and all Tampa Bay and Gator sports. She developed many deep and long-lasting relationships with friends from high school and college, prayer and bible study groups, the “Monday Bridge Girls”, the “Daytrippers”, and others. Betsy was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and beloved BeBe to her grandchildren.
Betsy is survived by her children, Sharon Nye (John), Brian Stagg, and Stephen Stagg (Micky); three grandchildren, Carly Bayless (Josh), Samantha Stagg, and Andrew Nye (Mary Grace); and her sister Mary Woldstad.
A visitation for Betsy will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9:30 am to 10:00 am, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33629. Following mass a reception will be held at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, 1601 S MacDill Ave Tampa, FL 33629.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betsy's memory may be made to Lifepath Hospice, Dawning Family Services (formerly known as Alpha House), or to a charity of your choice.
