Bessie Mooney Lyle, born on February 3, 1936, in Tampa, Florida, to Bessie Magdalene and Vinson L. Mooney, passed away October 31, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, family devotion and cherished memories.
Bessie was first and foremost a devoted mother and wife, she dedicated herself to ensuring the happiness and growth of her family. Although generally reserved in demeanor, she often displayed an adventurous spirit. She loved to travel when opportunity presented and spent many hours enjoying the great outdoors with friends and family. Camping was a passion and great family fun for her. Mostly she enjoyed the simple activities of everyday life: caring for her family, sharing conversation, gathering with family and friends, embracing the gifts of life and home. She created countless memories that will be forever treasured.
Bessie is survived by her devoted children: son Dale Edward Lyle (Kathy), daughter Linda Lyle Spivey (Ed), son Dean Richard Lyle (Sherry) and daughter
Brenda Gail Lyle. She also leaves behind a beloved sister Sharon Neuman (Roland). Bessie was a proud, loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Sean Kelly Spivey (Alysia), James Edward Lyle (Melissa), Lindsay Kay Hofherr (Rich), Jonathan Marshall Lyle, Amber Nicole Riddle (Mike) and Christopher Dean Lyle (Jessica); and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren: Luke, Katie, Madison, Kaden, Logan and Ansley.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband James Gordon Lyle, whom she married on January 23, 1954, in Tampa, Florida. Together they shared a life filled with love, devotion and joyful experience. Bessie is also preceded in death by her brother Vinson Mooney, and her sisters Annie Pitts, Carmel Cone, Eloise Davis, Audrey Mooney and Avis Mooney.
Bessie will be remembered for the great tenacity and courage she displayed in caring for her children while facing significant challenges. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, and devoted herself to family and serving others. She was particularly proud of her children and grandchildren, relishing their accomplishments and sharing their joy for life.
A formal service will take place on Friday, November 8, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, located at 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, Florida, 33610. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a formal service at 3:00 PM officiated by Doctor Gil Smith. The service will be followed by a burial service at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bessie’s memory to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.
