

Armando was born to the late Rene and Emilina Gallardo. He met his soulmate and the love of his life, Betty Lou Valdez, as a teenager living in New York City and eventually returned to Tampa. The married in 1952 and lived in their West Tampa for 63 years, building a life and creating a family.
As a young man he served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
His career with the City of Tampa Parks Department spanned over 35 years. During that time, he helped to design the original Bayshore.
He was a diehard Bucs fan, being a season ticket holder for years.
Was an avid Body Builder, he was well known at Hector’s Gym for over 50 years.
Early retirement gave Armando and Betty Lou the ability to raise their first great grandchild, Alysia Garcia for 9 years. She brought them love, joy, comfort, throughout the grieving of the loss of their son James Gallardo in 1991.
Armando was predeceased by son, James Gallardo and wife of 70 years Betty Lou.
Survived by daughters, Rebecca Gallardo, Deborah Smith (Tom), grandchildren; Selena Pelaez Sanchez, Amanda Pelaez, Allison Favis, and Alexandra Smith. Betty Lou and Armando were also survived by 7 great grandchildren including Sloane of 4 years, who loved them unconditionally and provided much comfort to Betty Lou and Armando, including lots of besitos.
Family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers who enabled Armando and Betty Lou to "age in place", providing 24 hour care in their home. Thank you Jose, Jorge, Elizabeth, Julio, Summer, and Christian.
Family wants to extend their appreciation to Nurse Practitioner Stephanie O'Bryant, who provided care in home for over 2 years.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 pm, Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1 pm at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 5048 E Lake, Ave, Tampa, Fla. 33610.
A Life Celebration will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the family home in West Tampa.
