VOSS, Anne Ballanfant, aged 84, passed away peacefully in Tampa, Florida with her family by her side on Thursday, May 23, 2024, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Anne was born in Houston, Texas on November 8, 1939, and grew up on the family’s Lynnside Ranch in Junction, Texas. She graduated from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin, and West Covina High School and Occidental College in California. In her junior year at Occidental, Anne was selected for a semester’s study in political science and government at American University, Washington D.C. This was a defining experience. After graduating in 1961 from Occidental College, she worked at the Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Anne met her future husband, Jim, in Germany in 1966, where he was serving in the U.S. Army. Jim proposed on the shore of the Danube in Vienna, and they were married in July 1967 in Houston. Thus began a fifty-six year adventure that took them around the world as Jim continued his service in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Department of State. Anne held many important positions in her career and received numerous awards and commendations for her work. Passionate to relieve suffering and care for those in need, she served as Assistant Station Manager, American Red Cross, U.S. Army Pirmasens, Germany. Equally devoted to the care and nurturing of children, she obtained an advanced degree in early childhood development and was Coordinator, U.S. Child Development Services, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. There she was the driving force to construct and staff a new multi million-dollar facility to serve the needs of hundreds of families. A life-long Episcopalian, Anne was a Greeter and served on the Vestry of St John’s Episcopal Church, Tampa. Ever committed to good government, she was past President of the Florida Federation of Republican Women; past President of the Florida Republican Women’s Network; Commissioner, State of Florida Commission on the Status of Women; past Vice President, Tillie Fowler Excellence in Public Service; past President Tampa Republican Women Federated; and a Member of Presidential Inaugural Committees, Washington, D.C., 1981, 2001, and 2005. Anne held various positions in the Republican Party of Hillsborough County; and she was co-founder and Vice President of Strategic Solutions of Florida, a political consulting firm.
Anne was also a member of the local DeSoto Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. But most importantly, Anne was a blessed child of God … a light that graced us all.
Anne was preceded in death by infant son Christopher, her parents Selma Autrey and Richard E. Ballanfant, her brother Richard (Burt) Ballanfant, and her sister Selma (Mimi) Buderus. She is survived by her husband, Jim, their son Rick, her sister-in-law Sarah Ballanfant (Burt), brother- and sister-in-law Bob and Sue Voss, brother-in-law Lee Buderus (Mimi), many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews, and two great-grand nephews.
