Angel Luis Barreto was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on April 1, 1959 to Angel Barreto and Elsa Hernandez. (Both his parents are awaiting him in Glory according to a vision he recently had, where he saw them walking toward him holding hands).
He leaves behind his wife, Diana Barreto; their son, Ruben Luis Barreto; daughter-in-law, Jazmin Barreto; grandson, Samuel Ruben Barreto; sister, Damarys Tejada; niece, Crystal Ruiz; nephew, José Alonso; his mother-in-law, Heliodora Rodriguez; plus four grand-nieces and grand-nephews, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, many aunts and cousins in Puerto Rico, plus many "adopted children" who called him "Dad", and a great many friends and brethren in Christ.
He was preceded in death by his baby daughter Maria Christina Barreto and has been reunited with her in Glory.
Luis, as friends called him, grew up in the Church of God in Tampa under Pastor Antonio Figueroa from the age of 3 yrs. for 24 yrs. and under his present day pastor Anna Figueroa for 36 yrs.
His family was one of the first in the congregation and he was our oldest deacon. Luis loved his congregation so much that he wrote a farewell letter and had his present-day Pastor, read it during Wednesday night service. In the letter, Luis told them he was a blessed man and exhorted the church to guard their homes from the enemy and to obey their Pastor.
Last Saturday night he enjoyed a house service led by Sis. Patty Perez and the Encouragement ministry. After worshipping and singing, he was very happy and satisfied in his soul. He spent quality time laughing with his family and Pastor Anna.
The following morning, on July 17, during Sunday morning service, he went peacefully to be with the Lord in his sleep.
Luis will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor. He liked to joke and he made people feel at ease with his laid-back personality. Luis enjoyed hobbies such as fishing and watching sports. His favorite team was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mr. and Mrs. Barreto loved missionary work and traveled to the missions until his health no longer permitted him to do so.
He loved spending time with all his family and especially with his son, Ruben, his daughter-in-law Jaz, and he was just "in awe" of his grandson, Sam. Luis loved all the children in his life and they called him Bro. Luis, Mr. "B" or King Louie.
Our loss is heaven's gain. He will be greatly loved and missed by all who knew him.
