Andrew was born on January 26, 1941 in Abbeville, SC to Benjamin Wade Williams and Forrest Ann Thornton. He grew up in Abbeville and graduated from Abbeville High School in 1954. Andrew was an All-Star playing Football, Baseball and Basketball throughout High School.
Andrew went on to attend the University of South Carolina while working his way through college. He graduated with a degree in Mathematics. After graduation, he enter the US AIR force as a Lieutenant in officer training school and attended the University of Utah where he received his Masters in Metrology . He was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base as The Base Meteorologist in 1965. He ended his military career as a Captain and Weather Commander. He met his wife while she was working for the Red Cross volunteering at MacDill Air Force Base. They were married September 7, 1966 in Saint Petersburg at Pasadena Community Church. This year they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary.
Andrew was very involved with the Rotary Club of Tampa, St. John’s Episcopal Church and Tampa Yacht and Country Club. He loved to eat and enjoyed libations. He especially adored his wife’s cooking and he patronized Pach’s restaurant and cared about the proprietor and staff. He was known for his Sangria that everyone loved.
Andrew worked for GTE for over 20 years. After leaving GTE, he worked for the Clerk of the Circuit Court as a business analyst and he retired in 2007.
Andrew loved sports especially Football. He was an avid Gator fan, unless they were playing his alma mater, “The Gamecocks”. He enjoyed going to UF games with his wife and long time friends Sandy and Jim Cooney. He was also a runner, tennis player, weight lifter and golfer. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruising.
Andrew is survived by his wife Tamsen; his children, Kathleen (Michael) Purdy and Eileen (Ariel) Pineiro; his five beloved grandchildren Sterling and Peyton Purdy and Ethan, Olivia and Giuliana Pineiro.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, November 19 at St. John’s Episcopal Church (906 S Orleans Ave Tampa, FL 33606). In lieu of flowers please donate to Alzheimer’s Research.
