HALE, Amy Louise, 104, entered eternal rest on December 13, 2020. Amy joined her beloved husband Troy in heaven. When Amy was 17, she and Troy ran away and eloped in Tennessee. They were separated by death when he passed away in 1978 after 45 years of marriage. Amy is survived by: son, Brent Hale, daughter, Frances McCracken; grandchildren: Luther Kirby, Brenda Jennings, David Kirby, Chris Hale; great-grandchildren: Robert Carrasco, Rachel Kirby, Rolland Kirby, Donavin Jennings, Noah Kirby, Jack Hale, Lily Hale, Elijah Kirby, Aubrei Kirby, Wyatt Kirby, Aiden Kirby, numerous great-great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Amy dedicated her life to family, faith and a desire to always continue to learn. As a young mother, she taught Sunday School at Northside Baptist Church. As an older woman, when Amy was able to attend church, she was an active member of Brandon Fellowship Baptist Church. She worked as the Principal’s Secretary at Memorial Junior High School and Wilson Junior High School in Hillsborough County for over 30 years. In her late 60’s, she returned to school and earned her Associates of Arts degree, from Hillsborough Community College. After finishing college, she moved to spend time with her family in Jacksonville; while there she learned to read and type in Braille and volunteered her services. Upon returning to the Temple Terrace area, Amy substituted for Principal’s Secretaries for the Hillsborough County Schools. In 1987, Amy paired with a USF intern teacher for 9 hours teaching and tutoring Riverhills first graders who Amy “mesmerized…brings a lot of joy into them…I know they do for her.”
Amy was an avid crafter; she worked with ceramics and made porcelain dolls as collectables. After she retired, she began quilting and made quilts for the entire family. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, both veggies and flowers, and truly had a “green thumb.” She often talked about her heritage being Irish and Cherokee Indian. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and shared her faith by giving numerous Gideon New Testaments to the many Nurses/CNAs/Staff/employees @ Hawthorne Health & Rehab Center-Brandon which was Home for many years. They were her HEROES even before COVID, but especially recently in her last days on earth.
A funeral service will be conducted at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11 am with an hour visitation prior. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
