Alice was born May 18, 1931 in Bronx, NY where she played stickball in the streets and Jacks on the sidewalks. She graduated from Walton High School in Bronx, NY. She received a Louisa Wingate Underhill Certificate for Athletic Achievement in June 1949.
Alice married John Dillon on April 25, 1953. She worked on Wall Street until she could no longer work because she was starting to show that she was pregnant with her first child, Cathy. She became a stay at home Mom raising her three daughters. She was not only the Mom, she was the yard woman, house painter, and the financial administrator. She did it all! She was also the Gorilla that chased us around the house as we laughed and screamed!
She divorced in 1974 and started the next phase of her life. We watched her grow into the person you all know and love today. She was not only independent, she became courageous and self- confident.
Alice was blessed to find Love again with Robert Gilliam and spent 28 happy years together until his passing.
She worked as a Records Supervisor at Fireman’s Fund Insurance until retirement.
She enjoyed playing Mahjong and hand in foot with her friends, Water volleyball at the YMCA (she was known as the Hurricane). Oh, and let’s not forget shopping! She was always on a mission for a good deal and she always found them! She was a parishioner at Incarnation Church for 40 years. Her Faith was never wavered.
Alice brought joy to everyone that had the pleasure of crossing her path. She always said that God kept her here for so long so she could make people laugh and that she did! She was a loving Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, Partner, and true friend.
Preceded in death by her parents, Catherine (Griffen) and Gustave Rumpf; sisters, Florence Doughney, Catherine Conover, Mary Alice Rumpf; brothers, Charles, Benjamin (Ben) and William (Bill) Rumpf; son-in-law, Curtis Gulledge; and her partner of 28 years, Robert (Bob) Gilliam.
She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Turner (Robert), Diane Peterson, Mary Gulledge; and Grandson, Kyle Turner; many nieces and nephews of the Doughney and Rumpf Families; grand dogs, Roxie and Kylie; and also our kitty, Gracie. She will be missed by all but forgotten by none.
A visitation will be held, Friday, March 13, 2020 at Blount and Curry-MacDill, from 6pm-8pm. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Incarnation Catholic Church at 9:30am.
