Thomas spent his formative years learning the trade of carpentry, which would later become his career. After graduation, he moved to Philadelphia where two of his sisters and other members of his family lived. He later moved to White Plains, NY where he worked at Grasslands Hospital. While living in NY, he met Caroline Ravenell. They had a daughter, Dana. On April 26, 1975, Thomas and Caroline married and lived in NY for a short time.
Together as a family, they decided to move back to his home in N.C. Once back at home, Thomas turned his woodwork passion into a successful career as a carpenter and general contractor. Known for his extraordinary work ethic, he proudly supported his family with his acquired skillset. He built homes, custom cabinetry and did home remodeling. Following in family tradition, he also farmed. He planted and sold soybeans, and owned livestock. He had a special love for tractors, and farm equipment. When he wasn’t working, he would spend hours watching his favorite westerns in his recliner.
Thomas dedicated his life to Christ at an early age. He served as a Trustee, and was later ordained a Deacon at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Manson, NC. There, he faithfully served until he and his wife moved to Florida in 2020 to retire and be with their daughter and her family.
On December 25th, 2022, the Lord called his loyal servant home to rest. He is survived by his wife Caroline, daughter Dana King (Dexter), grandchildren Kia Cockrell (Ross), Brianna, Joseph and Christopher; great-grandchildren Sirius Bynum and Silas Kohen.
Also left to cherish his memory are siblings, Bernice Edwards Roberts, Toynetta Edwards, William V. Edwards (Betty), Clarence Edwards (Diane), Larry Edwards, Christine E. Vanish (Carl) - along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
