Robert Frederick Haab, better known as Bob, Dad, Grandpa, or, to his beloved wife Jean, ‘love’, passed away December 17th, 2011 after more than 81 years on this earth. Born September 2, 1930 to Charles and Lillian Haab of Brooklyn, New York, their second of three children, Bob went on to graduate from Brooklyn Technical High School and serve in Africa and Cuba as an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy SeaBees. Upon returning to New York, Bob had the good fortune of meeting Jean Weinrich at a friend’s wedding and officially taking her off the market in June of 1957. Three children followed, Kenneth, Gail, and Glenn, as well as jobs with Mack Trucks and U.S. Steel. The family later migrated from Long Island to South Florida in 1974, where Bob eventually settled with Avis Rent-a-Car. Forward-thinking and logic-oriented, Bob never stopped trying to improve the situations of those he cared for most, including the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America, of which he was Scout and Cub Master, the Broward County Navy League, the Freemasons, Tamarac Little League, Forest Lake Home Owners’ Association, and All Saints Lutheran Church, of which he was a councilman, head of finance, and active member for more than 37 years. In addition to serving his community, Bob was a constant figure at the sporting events, graduations, and general milestones of all seven of his grandchildren, traveling across state lines and even internationally to visit with Nicole, Brittney, Kaitlynn, Sabrina, Trey, Colton, and Carson. An avid traveler, Bob and Jean traveled to some 36 countries together, filling dozens of photo albums to be placed aside the dozen or so filled with pictures of their grandchildren. In more recent years, one could more often than not find Bob in his favorite chair, glass of Dewars in hand, surrounded by loved ones. One who knew well how fragile life could be, Bob never missed a chance to tell those closest to him how he really felt, be it a well-meant admonition, or a heart-felt expression of love. Ultimately, Bob left this world surrounded by adoring family members and holding on to the hand of the love of his life, content in the knowledge that they would all soon meet again.
Bob is survived by his wife Jean Haab of Ft. Lauderdale, his sister Lillian McIntosh of Largo, his three children and their spouses, Ken and Sandi Haab of Islamorada, Gail and Frank Good of Lake Worth, Glenn and Carolyn Haab of Ft. Lauderdale, seven grandchildren, and multiple extended family members.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation in the name of Robert Haab kindly be sent to the All Saints Lutheran Church (7875 West McNab Road, Tamarac, FL 33321).
Arrangements under the direction of Kraeer/Mason Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Tamarac, FL.
