Richard Raymond Brodeur, 73, of Margate, formerly of Worcester, Holland, and Auburn, Massachusetts died on July 17, 2021 after a short illness. He leaves his loving wife of 46 years, Katherine (Connors) Brodeur; his children, daughter Amy Cserny and her husband Mark of Rutland, MA and son John Brodeur and his wife Cynthia. He is also survived by his three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Brianna, Laila, and Nathan. He also leaves his dear brother, William Brodeur his wife Debra and nephew Kyle all of Margate.
Richard was born in Worcester, MA son of George A. and Constance (MacDonnell) Brodeur and lived in Massachusetts until moving to Florida permanently in 2016. He attended and graduated from the Worcester Boys Trade High School (now Worcester Vocational/Technical High School). He worked for Henry L. Hanson Company in Worcester for many years before joining the Worcester Post Office as a letter carrier. He retired from there in 2009 after 25 years of service. A dedicated and conscientious man, whatever job he had, whatever organization he belonged to, he gave 110%.
He was an army veteran, having served in Germany and in combat in Vietnam in 1968-1969. He was an active member of the American Legion for many years, holding a number of different positions within the organization, including serving as Past Commander for both the Chester P. Tuttle Post #279 in Auburn, MA and the James Carl Frederick Post #157 in Margate, FL. He was also a member of Vietnam Veterans of America. He was proud of his military service and his American Legion uniform, participating in many events within the Post and the community.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, visiting Massachusetts as often as possible. Thanksgiving dinner with the family was always a favorite. He loved to play golf, and in the past was an avid bowler. One of his greatest pleasures was a yearly visit Freeport, ME at Christmas to shop for presents at L.L. Bean and the other many stores in downtown Freeport , and then having supper at Gritty’s Pub. He also loved piloting his pontoon boat on the lake in Holland, MA, giving that up for a change of life in sunny Florida.
He was a patient and compassionate man, slow to anger and always ready to help a friend. He was a bit of a spendthrift but there was always enough for family and friends. He will be missed by all who crossed his path, and especially family and friends.
