I will miss Doug especially since I have many of the memories of living with him as his roommate at Wayne State University Law School. He had the qualities many of you have stated then. His brilliance, his sense of humor and kindness will be missed.

Minnie and I would hang out with Doug, Dottie and his family often in the early years of our careers in Detroit.

I was attempting to call him today and found the obituary, as I was planning a trip to Ft. Lauderdale to visit.  Shocked and sad.

It's taken me a month to decide what to say - how to capture Doug's essence in a few words - and I have finally realized those words.  I thought of all Doug's good qualities and all the negative things (none) and decided that Doug was all the things I wanted to be.  Other people might want to be like Dan Marino, Brad Pitt, Bill Gates or Ronald Reagan but, if I could be like anyone in the world, I would want to be like Doug Long.

What a cook and you guys had the best New Years Eve Party with the best food, drinks and friends!  Doug's breakfasts were banquets with every possible combination on the table!  It was such a pleasure to have you both at our home in Charleston, SC.  Doug was by far my favorite accountant and you both, such wonderful friends.  Doug inspired us all to be the best we can be.  Doug will be missed so much and are thankful for having had the opportunity to have known him.

When I was first dating my husband Brad, he was new to the sailing club, didn't know many people and felt a little uncomfortable at the big parties.  We were seated next to Karen and Doug at the formal yearly event, the Change of Command.  Doug was so kind and gracious, spent time talking to Brad and made him feel welcome and part of the group.  I will always be grateful to Doug for that.

Doug always liked a good party.  He must be enjoying his cocktails and cigars in heaven!

So many things come to mind.....what a great man, friend and neighbor.  Full of character, dignity and kindness. So easy going and so much love for his family.  I never saw him angry, only happy.  I am so sorry for your loss.  He leaves a legacy of a great humble man with enough patience for us all.  We were all lucky to have known him.  I pray you will always have wonderful memories. So Sorry to hear this terrible news.  He was such an awesome man.

Douglas Franklin Long: Born November 8, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He left us on December 2, 2014. His battle with pancreatic cancer was short, just 7 weeks and 4 days. He was my beloved Husband; I miss him so much. 
Father of Stephanie (Adam), Gillian (Zack), Alex (Christen) and Elizabeth. Grandfather of Ava, Casey, Addison, Wesley, Crosby and James (born on his birthday Nov.8th, 2014) Brother of Patricia, Nancy, Alan and Michael (deceased). 
Doug will be deeply missed by his family and many dear friends.
Doug wanted to go home, so our Lord took him home. He passed peacefully with me, his wife and his daughter Elizabeth at his side. 
Doug will be missed, but not forgotten.

So very sorry for the loss of Doug. I grew up with his whole family. He was a great man. He Will be missed. RIP in HEAVEN????
