Dorothy Mae Miles was born in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica on July 1, 1944, to Marcus and Joyce Bent. She attended Manchester College where she studied nursing. After college, she moved to Kingston where she met Earl Miles. They married on October 25, 1969. They decided to migrate to the United States in the early 1980s and joined other family members in South Florida.
Dorothy soon began working in the healthcare industry. She loved caring for the elderly. Her dream was to own an assisted living facility. She and her business partner opened Courtleigh Manor Retirement Home in the city of Lauderhill. As she approached retirement age, Dorothy and Earl decided to leave the city life behind and head north to Okeechobee. They found the perfect spot to build their dream home with lots of space to raise animals, grow plants in her garden and have family cookouts.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband Earl of 53 years; one brother Michael Bent; two sons Darran Fo and Garth Miles; two daughters-in-law, Brenda Fo and Sandy Miles; seven grandchildren, Raven Miles, Sydnee Fo, Darran Fo, Jr, Willow Miles, Savannah Miles, Khloe Miles and Kingston Miles; two “Bonus” grandchildren, Travisa and Trakiya Skinner; three “Bonus” great-grandchildren, Travis Lipscomb, Amir Leno and Samiya Cook; three sisters-in-law, Merlene Cole, Maureen (Errol) Parkinson, June (Howard) Jackson; brothers-in-law, Locksley Stewart, Collin Miles, David (Dionne) Miles, Joseph (Angela) Miles; and a host of family and dear friends.
