Dr. William Franklin Shipman, Jr., Physician in Private Practice as Ear, Nose, Throat and Plastic Surgeon of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away at the age of 88 at his home on November 30th, 2018 surrounded by his wife and family.
The son of the late William Franklin Shipman, Sr., and Menard Vaughan Shipman of Augusta, Georgia. He was born in Augusta Georgia in 1929. He also lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Panama City, Florida and Bainbridge, Georgia.
Served in the United States Army as a Captain in the 7th Armored Division at Fort Knox Ky.
Dr. Shipman was a devote Christian and loved the outdoors, skiing, diving, motorcycling, hiking, working out, fishing, hunting and traveling around the world. He also loved attending to his cows, horses, peacocks, goats, chickens and other varmints that happened upon his 20 acres on Timberlane Rd.
He attended Richmond High School in Augusta Georgia where he excelled in sports. He went on to attend the University of Georgia for his undergraduate degree then on to Medical School at the Medical College of Georgia for his MD degree then specialized in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery training at Tulane at Charity Hospital in New Orleans La. Finishing with a Board Certification in Head and Neck Surgery.
Living in Tallahassee one would find Dr. Shipman practicing medicine, taking care of those less fortunate, but also involved with the Capital Medical Society, Boy Scouts of America, Rotary Club, and 4H Club.
Dr. Shipman also attended first Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church, Celebration Baptist Church and teaching Sunday school from time to time.
Dr. Shipman was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Dr. Shipman is survived by his wife, of 66 years; his sister, Jackie Walters of Augusta, Georgia; his four children, Tripp Shipman of Panama City, Fl., Susan McClaugherty of Tallahassee, Fl., Martin Shipman of Tallahassee and Ellen Pursell of Sylacauga Al.; 12 grand kids and 14 great grand kids.
Visitation will be at 11AM on Tuesday the 4th of December at Celebration Baptist Church of Tallahassee, Florida.
Funeral Services will be at 12:30 pm on December the 4th at Celebration Baptist Church.
