William Walter Harper a resident of Tallahassee, Florida passed away Sunday May 3, 2015 at Brightmoore Hospice, Griffin, Georgia at the age of 84. Mr. Harper was born on October 12, 1930 in Alapaha, Georgia to the late Thomas Harper and the late Laura Maude Childs Harper. "Walt" proudly served in three different branches of the military. The Army, Navy and Air Force. During his military service he received many medals and decorations including but not limited to; Parachute/ Glider Badge, SAEMR, Good Conduct Medal,National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal and Outstanding Unit Award. He completed several military training courses that included; Light Weapons Inf. Leader, Airborne, Aerology, NAVPERS, Officer Candidate School, Supervisor for Tropic Survival and Artic Survival. The units he was attached to were; 325th Air, 1975th AACS Squadron {MATS}, 17 TCS {AAC}, 17 TAC A1ft Sq. {AAC} and 1st APRON {TAC}. Walt also had the privileged to fly with the Blue Angels and Parachute with the Golden Knights on several occasions. After he retired from the Air Force in 1971 he continued his line of work as a Air Traffic Controller with the FAA. He retired from the FAA in 1993. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Miller Harper, sisters; Woodie Harper Harsey, Wilma Harper Moore, brothers; Henry, Wiley and Lewis Harper. Mr. Harper is survived by his son, William Wayne Harper, daughter, Wanda Harper Wagner, her spouse, Phillip Pat Wagner, 3 Grandchildren; Amanda, Nathan and Averi, 2 Great Grandchildren; Justin and Sayla, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be on Sunday, May 10, at 12:30 pm at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Rd.
