William “Bill” Davis, 74, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 6, 2020. He is survived by his wife Nancy Davis, his two daughters, Rachel Knowlton and Sharon Allison, his two grandchildren, Shirley Bradley and Dalton Allison, all of Tallahassee, FL. In addition, he has three sisters; Sandra Kay Davis, Charlene Fowler, Darlene Davis and a brother, Gerald “Jerry” Davis and various nieces and nephews in West Virginia. He is pre-deceased in death by his parents, Charles “Chuck” and Ruby Davis as well as his first wife, Shirley Knotts Davis.
Bill was born in the mountains of Grafton, WV on a cold day in November. After graduating from Grafton High School he decided to join the United States Air Force. He served as a transportation specialist in a Strategic Air Command unit at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Michigan. He spent time in Germany, Hawaii and Okinawa before returning to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He continued serving in the military and reserves for both the Air Force and National Guard until he was honorably discharged in 1994.
Bill used his time in the military to help obtain his college education including a master’s degree in education. He was a lifelong educator. In his early career he taught elementary school. Later, he found joy in teaching the high school equivalency exam and GED tests for the Florida correctional system and local community colleges. In addition, he would occasionally act as a substitute teacher for Leon County School System.
In 1971, he married Shirley Knotts of Grafton, WV. They moved to Florida and proceeded to have two beautiful daughters, Rachel and Sharon. When she unexpectedly died in 1994, God graced him and his daughters lives a few years later with another wonderful woman, Nancy Braddock whom he married in 1998 and remained happily with till his passing.
Bill enjoyed reading and watching westerns, spending time with his family and friends, and attending weekly bible study at Grace Church where he was member for over 35 years. He will be missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Sunday December 13, 2020 at Grace Church of Tallahassee at 2pm.
