Bill was born on July 9, 1940 and died peacefully on December 8, 2024, surrounded by family. Survived by wife Karen; sons, Al and Dennis Curry; daughters-in-law, Jo and Suzy Curry; 4 grandchildren (who lovingly called him D-Dad), 1 great-granddaughter, and his sister and brother-in-law Bobbie Turner Gaston and Levin Gaston. Preceded in death by his mother Lola Gay Allen, sisters Patsy Culbreth and Jean Paul, and wife of 50 years, June Turner Curry.
Born and raised in Shellman, GA, Bill was a self taught person, extremely disciplined in his work and personal life. He moved to Jacksonville, FL with his high school sweetheart, June, and began his career at Publix Super Markets. Starting as a full time stockman, he rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming Vice President of Real Estate and serving on the Board of Directors. He retired after 37 years, and moved back to Tallahassee with June. He resided there for the last 27 years.
Bill loved gardening and shooting annoying squirrels. He was fascinated with investing and understanding the markets. An avid sports fan and lifetime FSU supporter, he loved women’s basketball and college athletics. He was a member of Grace Church of Tallahassee. In retirement, he often bragged about his grandchildren and was excited to become a great-grandfather. His greatest hope was to develop and leave a legacy for the Curry Family name. The Curry Family would say to him, “job well done!”
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, December 13, 2024 at Grace Church of Tallahassee 731 N. Gadsden Street (850-224-9606). Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Thursday at Grace Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
