After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Wayne was granted his wish of being home. He passed peacefully with his family there on Friday morning, September 28, 2018.
Wayne was born in Century, Florida to Frank and Irene Hicks. Growing up in Pensacola, Wayne attended Sewanee Military Academy in Tennessee and the University of Alabama. Wayne was in the U.S. Army from 1962-1966.
Following brief careers in the collections and mortgage businesses, Wayne began a career in law enforcement. He served with the Tallahassee Police Department and retired from the state Attorney's office, 2nd Judicial Circuit as a criminal investigator in 2003. Wayne was a member of the Florida Intelligence Unit and the Big Bend Task Force. Upon retirement, Wayne resumed real estate, opening Hicks Realty Group. He had been a licensed broker since 1978.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 26 years, Belinda Hicks; a brother, Lamar Hicks of Mandeville, Louisiana; three sons, Greg (Lesley) Hicks, Jeff Hicks and Troy Hicks all of Elyria, Ohio; and daughter, Lauren (Tucker) Bruno of Savannah, Georgia. He leaves grandchildren, Nicole Hicks, Kourtney Hicks, Crystal Hicks, Ashlee Hicks, Kimberly Hicks, Devin Hicks and Natalie Bruno. His great grandchildren include Gage Hicks, Lux Hicks, Gregory Baldwin, Lilliona Baldwin, Cole Hicks, Karisa Hicks and Vivian Rose Hicks.
Anyone who knew Wayne knows he was passionate about boating, fishing and motorcycles. Dog Island was his happy place as well as rides on unbeaten paths.
The family is so appreciative of the TMH Cardiovascular Surgical Unit, Dr. Fernandez, Dr. Akhavan, TMH Palliative Care and Covenant Hospice for their passionate care.
