Warren Merle McAlpine, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, just days after celebrating his 96th birthday. Born on September 24, 1928, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Warren lived a life full of adventure, love, and steadfast values that he passed on to all who knew him.
Warren graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, setting the stage for a career that reflected his keen intellect and determination. He also served his country with pride in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Macon and the USS Albany, forging a deep sense of dedication that would follow him throughout his life.
After his time in the Navy, Warren spent many years in New Jersey and then settled in Miami and later Tallahassee, where he built a rich and full life with his beloved wife, Janet Evelyn Tabisz. They married on June 10, 1950, and their union became a testament to unwavering love and partnership. Together, they explored the world, from the landscapes of Europe to the wild beauty of Alaska. Their shared sense of adventure took them across countless National Parks, often accompanied by their grandchildren, who were the heart of Warren’s life.
Warren was a man of many talents—a craftsman who found joy in building with his hands. Whether putting out new mulch every spring, laying tile for friends and family, or tinkering in the garage for hours, he took pride in every project he tackled. He also brought warmth and wonder to his family’s holidays, lovingly decorating their home with intricate Christmas villages that lit up the season. His children and grandchildren will always remember his patient teaching, whether it was showing them how to boogie board in the waves at St. George Island or sharing stories at the kitchen table over his favorite Pepsi and donuts.
He was a man who loved nature and its quiet beauty. He delighted in feeding deer in his backyard, even if he playfully complained when they nibbled on his flowers. Warren was as strong as he was gentle, an independent spirit who remained active and engaged with life until the very end. He cherished his family above all else and taught everyone around him the importance of kindness, respect, and putting family first.
In his passing, Warren joins his wife of 57 years, Janet. He is survived by his beloved four children; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his adventurous spirit, his kindness, and his commitment to family. His legacy lives on in every smile he inspired, every lesson he shared, and every wave his family rides, guided by his loving memory.
