Tommie Hoover Rule, 96, of Tallahassee passed Sunday (8/30) at Westminster Oaks Health Center. A native of Milledgeville, GA she came to Tallahassee in 1992 from St. Petersburg, FL. Prior to retiring, she had been an insurance supervisor for Northeastern Greyhound Lines in Cleveland, OH. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and had served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She organized the Catholics at Westminster Oaks and also helped with the Serra Club for locations. An enthusiastic volunteer at Capital Regional Hospital, she was known as the “Hospital Hugger” and also served as the Chairman & Trainer of Volunteer Services. Tommie was the first volunteer to receive the Humanitarian Award at Capital Regional.
Tommie was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, John Rule, who died in 1989. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Mike & Laverne Bohleber of Waynesville, NC, John & Terry Hoover of Tallahassee, Gil & Anne Hoover of Tallahassee, Patti Kearson of Ft. Lauderdale; many great nieces and nephews; and a great many dear friends.
Friends may call at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road, Monday (9/7) from 5 until 7 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 7 PM following visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (9/8) at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with interment following in Roselawn Cemetery.
