Thomas J. Wagner, 87, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Tallahassee, FL. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and genuine friend to many.
He was born in McMinnville, TN on February 28, 1925, and moved with his family in the early 1930s to Tallahassee and resided in the Chaires community in eastern Leon county. He graduated from Leon High School in 1943 and attended Florida State University. Thomas served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WW II. After returning from the service, he worked as a conductor for the Seaboard Coastline RailRoad/CSX for over 40 years, retiring in 1991.
Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his friends and family. He was a member of the Golden Railroaders and the First Baptist Church of Tallahassee and an active member of the Sunday School Class lead by Dr. Lee Roberts. In his retirement, Thomas farmed the family property in the Chaires community until it was sold to Leon County for the construction of the Chaires Elementary School and the Chaires Community Center and recreational facility, where he enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, David Brown and Ione Wooten Wagner and his brother David B. Wagner, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Carolyn Clark Wagner; son, Thomas C. Wagner; daughter, Jane Wagner Broyles, her husband Ed and grandsons Dylan Thomas and Trevor David Broyles; brother Daniel M. Wagner, Sr and his wife Ann; and sister-in-law, Maureen Wagner, all of Tallahassee and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank their Frist Baptist Church family for their love and support; Dr. Rick Dameron and his staff for their care over the past several years and the recent care provided by the staff of the cardiac care physical therapy group at Capital Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be held 6:00PM-8:00PM, Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Culley MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel. Funeral services will be 3:00PM, Friday, June 8, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Tallahassee with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
