Thomas Rowe McMullen, 68, passed away Saturday January 28th, 2023. Born in 1954, in Ft. Pierce, Florida, to Dorothy (Dolly) Downey (formerly McMullen) and Thomas Deaver McMullen. He majored in Religion at FSU, and enjoyed being in musical productions with the School of Music. His love of music led to many years as the early morning classical music radio host at WFSU-FM. Later he became a computer programmer and IT specialist, initially self-employed, then with The Trust for Public Land and Florida Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company.
He was a great lover of books, and his personal library numbered in the thousands. He was a member of an ongoing book club for over 30 years with his life partner, Julia DeHoff, whom he met at Bill’s Bookstore. He loved being outdoors, taking walks, and admiring the live oak trees. He played in a DDC frisbee league, and was ranked internationally. He was an avid amateur photographer, even lugging 12 pounds of camera equipment through a 6 month backpacking trip through Europe in his 20s. He was a lifelong student of language, philosophy, politics, history, poetry and technology.
He is survived by his partner, his children, Evan McMullen (Amber DiMeglio) and Caitlin McMullen (Michael Huff), grandchildren Sage and Clay Huff, mother, and brother Nathan Blane McMullen (Karen).
There will be a celebration of life at Optimist Park on Saturday, February 4th at 2pm. It will be an informal, outdoor gathering. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. Some folding chairs will be available. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to WFSU-FM, or the ACLU.
