Sylvia M Owens

She was the only child of Daniel and Ruth Moor. Sylvia was born in Tifton, Georgia on April 14, 1931. After graduating from Gulf Park College, she moved to Tallahassee where she met Verlon Owens, the only child of Rufus A. and Willie "Bill" Maynard Owens. Verlon and Sylvia were married on February 14, 1953. Sylvia worked as a draftsperson for the Florida Department of Transportation in the County Mapping division for over 30 years, retiring on August 1st, 1987. Sylvia spent her retirement years gardening with a special love of daylilies. She was also an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

Verlon and Sylvia had 3 children, Wesley Verlon, born November 16, 1953; Kay Lynn, born May 13, 1956; and Laura Ellen, born June 9, 1959. Verlon passed away after 60 years of marriage to Sylvia on April 16th, 2013. Kay Lynn Hill and Laura Ellen predeceased their mother.

Survivors are her son, Wesley Owens, wife Rhonda and grandchildren, Jacob and Emily and great granddaughter Brynlee Ann of O'Fallon, MO., her son-in-law, Nelson Hill, wife Lisa and grandchildren, Ashley of Tallahassee, Adam, wife Holly and great grandson Alec of Tallahassee.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, December 11th at Culley's Funeral Home on Timberlane Road, with a graveside service following at Tallahassee Memory Gardens at 12 noon. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 1689 Old St. Augustine Road, Tallahassee FL. 32301.
