On Saturday, August 25, 2018, Steve Rogers, honorable husband and faithful father, felt the tap on his shoulder that it was time to go home. Surrounded by his loving family, he took his last earthly breath at 6:45 p.m. Steve was preceded in death by his father, George, and his mother, Roma. He is survived by his wife Wendy, his three children, Christopher, Preston and Lindsey, his daughter-in-law Kelly, his brothers Mike (wife Lynn) and Doug (wife Ann), and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Steve was born on September 12, 1960 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He grew up in a military family living in Texas, California, Japan, Virginia and Florida. When he was 18 years old, and living in Pensacola, Florida, he met his future wife, Wendy. Steve attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1984 with a B.S. in computer science. He married his high school sweetheart on June 23, 1984 before beginning his career with IBM. In 2014, he retired from thirty years of service with IBM and embarked on a new journey with Workday Corporation.
Steve’s mission in life was to protect and provide for his family, which he went above and beyond to successfully accomplish. In addition to serving his family, he had a passion to serve his community. He served on the board for multiple organizations including Big Bend Hospice, American Cancer Society, Florida Tax Watch, among others.
In 2011, he created the TMH Cancer Center Golf Skills Challenge. This fundraiser is something he took great pride in as he single handedly planned, directed and executed it for many years. In addition to his passion for philanthropy, he also traveled the country to share his testimony. He touched many people with his motivational speeches and always made sure to leave them with a smile on their faces. Steve also spent his time sharing his wisdom with young sales professionals leaving an indelible mark on their careers.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Meridian Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Center (https://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/) in recognition of the excellent care Steve received since his initial diagnosis in 2001.
