Stacy Marie Van Laningham, 57, passed away peacefully in her Tallahassee home on February 1, 2023, leaving her husband John and daughters Amanda, 35; and Jacqueline, 30; as well as her extended family and many friends, to honor her life and keep her memory alive.
The middle child between two brothers, Stacy was born on March 12, 1965, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to John Richard Volk, Sr., and Nancy Cartwright. She is survived by her father and brothers John, Jr., and Steven (and his wife Theresa); her brother John’s children, Matthew and Jennifer Volk; Aunt Phyllis Lacovic, née Volk (Bob); mother-in-law Barbara Van Laningham; and sister-in-law Amy Ballou (Dan). Both her mother and her father-in-law (Dale) predeceased her.
During childhood, Stacy lived in Boca Raton, FL, graduating from Pope John Paul II High School in 1983. Later that year, while attending the University of Florida, she met John, with whom, in 1985, she would move to Tallahassee, which became their home for the majority of the following four decades. Stacy graduated from Florida State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Also in that signal year, Stacy and John were married, and their first daughter, Amanda, was born. Amanda’s younger sister, Jackie, arrived in 1992, completing the family.
Stacy was an enthusiastic mother and homemaker, devoted wife, and gentle friend. She was a talented artist who loved to draw and paint. In later life, Stacy took up photography, creating unique and colorful images of nature, especially flowers, using only her iPhone. Stacy was thoughtful, generous, selfless, and ever eager to help. If you had a problem, she would offer solutions. Those close to her will miss the advice, encouragement, and counseling she offered whenever illness or adversity struck.
Through it all, Stacy tirelessly worked the soil. She loved to plan, cultivate, and plant gardens of all types, pursuing these personal pleasures with matchless dedication and diligence. Unfailingly meticulous in her designs, Stacy made detailed notes concerning each area she planted, carefully plotting the layout on graph paper.
Upon entering the household of God, sweet Stacy, free at last from the bondage to decay under which all creation groans, may you enjoy everlasting happiness and peace in the tender embrace of our Lord, and may you forget the worries and cares of this fallen world as you tend the gardens of Heaven.
