Sharon lived her early years in Guam and California, moving to St. Petersburg, Florida in fifth grade. During high school, she was the editor of the school newspaper and received a cash award to attend a journalism conference at the University of Florida.
In 1963, Sharon met her future husband, Bill, while working at the St. Petersburg Times. In August 1964, they wed, and in the following year, they had their first son, Frederic. Bill’s graduate fellowship took them to Florida State University in 1966. In the following years, Sharon focused on raising Frederic while Bill worked in college administration and teaching. Sharon became an excellent self-taught cook and seamstress.
In 1972, they welcome their second son, Alexander. While Sharon worked various jobs in the medical field, she poured her love into her family and her art. She also loved to travel and took many great photographs, some of which inspired her paintings. She particularly enjoyed painting birds in scenic settings in a pictorealist style using acrylics.
Sharon and Bill were members of Temple Baptist Church for many years beginning in 1986. They commuted between St. Petersburg and Tallahassee from 1989 until 1993, when Tallahassee became their permanent home. During this time, Sharon focused on her painting, branching into watercolor painting, for which she won a juried award. She was an avid reader and closely followed current affairs.
Throughout her adult life, Sharon served her family with selflessness, warmth, and humor. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. We miss her terribly, but we are forever grateful to God for shining His light through her life.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Barton Buck; her two sons, Frederic William Buck (Alicia) of Duluth, Georgia, and Alexander Nathaniel Buck (Anna) of Tallahassee, Florida; four grandchildren: Emerson William Buck, Claire Emily Buck, William Campbell Buck, and Elise Angeline Buck; and her brother, John Curtis Hucks of New Meadows, Idaho.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 2, at 2:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road. A burial will follow at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s memory can be made to Big Bend Hospice.
