Sarah Tervin Smith Robinson died on April 18, 2024, at Westminster Care Center in Tallahassee, Florida, at the age of 102. She was born in Lineville, Alabama, on June 22, 1921, to parents, Richard Clarence Smith and Addie Troy Lanier.
Mrs. Robinson was predeceased by her parents, her husband of more than 60 years, Frank Albert Robinson, and her son, Richard Edgar Robinson. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Katherine Robinson Sparkman; grandchildren Brent Dubose Sparkman and Melissa Sparkman Bakas (Ben); and five great-grandchildren: Blake and Logan Sparkman and Bryson, Sarah Katherine, and Ansley Bakas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from high school in Birmingham, Alabama, and received a scholarship to Wheeler Business College in Birmingham. Later, after her children were born, she worked for many years for the Alachua County School Board as an Administrative Assistant in Gainesville, Florida where she retired from Gainesville High School.
In Gainesville, Mrs. Robinson and husband Frank volunteered for Haven Hospice. For several years she served as chairman for volunteers for the Hospice organization where she was compassionate in caring for and visiting Hospice patients.
Mrs. Robinson was a former member of First Presbyterian Church and Grace Presbyterian in Gainesville. At Grace Presbyterian she received the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership award in celebration of her service and ministry. After moving to Tallahassee to be closer to family, she joined Faith Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered in the church office and was a member of Presbyterian Women.
Mrs. Robinson was a gracious lady brought up in the Deep South, and taught her children about manners, etiquette and Southern hospitality. She was kind and witty with a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by many who loved her.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church Columbarium, 2200 N. Meridian Road in Tallahassee, on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in memory of Sarah Robinson be directed to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd. Tallassee, FL 32308 or to Faith Presbyterian Church.
