Sandy, as she was affectionately known by her friends, was a lifelong resident of Leon County. She attended Rickards High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. She thoroughly enjoyed competing in country and western line dancing and was an avid bowler in various bowling leagues for many years. After her retirement from the Florida Department of Transportation in 2009, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family. During her retirement she enjoyed some wonderful vacations with close friends. Her final years were spent at Cherry Laurel Retirement Home in Tallahassee.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Williams Hawkins; her father, Robert Wendell Hawkins; and her loving cat, Velvet.
Surviving family members include daughter, Vicki Renee Burgees; a brother, Danny Hawkins (Lenora) of Tallahassee; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nephews and many loving friends. She was lovingly cared for during her last three years by her caretaker, Omesha Clark.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 3rd at Culley’s MeadowWood Riggins Road Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately preceding the service at 9:30 a.m. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Tallahassee Memory Gardens at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in tallahassee, Florida.
