Robert (“Bob”) Owen Truluck, 75, resident of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Bob was born in Moultrie, GA on July 28, 1949. He was the son of the late Robert W. Truluck and Agnes Willis Truluck.
Bob’s professions have included working in the tobacco fields on the family farm, building school buses, a hospital IV technician, testing new pesticides with the Department of Agriculture, a line foreman in a zipper factory, serving as a professional fire-department engineer. Bob was an active general contractor in the Orlando area for many years. Eventually, he found his true calling as an author where he poured his heart into his crime and noir fiction novels and writings. He won the St. Martin’s Press/Private Eye Writers of America Award for Best First Private Eye Novel and the Shamus Award for Best First Private Investigator Novel. Bob was also nominated for one Barry Award and 2 Anthony Awards. He has several published novels and literary works still circulating.
Bob is survived by his mother, Agnes Willis Truluck of Beaufort, SC; two daughters, Taylor Mathis (Brad) of Fort Valley, GA and Lauren Truluck (Bryan) of Tallahassee, FL; beloved granddaughters Trinity Truluck-Mathis and Carsyn Bree Mathis, both of Fort Valley, GA and Melora Opal Walker and soon-to-be baby sister, both of Tallahassee, FL; sisters Elizabeth Neace (Larry) of Dacula, GA and Freda Woodward (David) of Beaufort, SC; nephews Joey Upton (Pamela) and Ellison Woodward (Jessica); nieces Lynn McGuigan, Flannery Macynski (Rob) and Westly Woodward (Cheyney); and many great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Truluck.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life, love, and laughter will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Port Royal Baptist Church, 707 Pinckney Blvd, Port Royal, SC. The family will receive and welcome friends immediately following the memorial service.
