Robert was born in Tampa, FL (living in Winter Haven, FL) April 7, 1938 to John William Owen and Helen Harvey Owen. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviator for 5 years flying several combat missions associated with the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral in Tallahassee. Robert attended the University of the South in Sewanee, TN and earned degrees in Physics and Mathematics and after the Navy he earned his MBA from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Robert worked in several jobs but had a lengthy career with Honeywell/Bull Worldwide Information Systems. One of Robert’s great passions was the support and participation in his daughter’s equestrian business and activities. He not only helped often at his daughter’s Cavallo Farms but was a frequent volunteer at the Red Hills Horse Trials.
Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother, as well as his 3 siblings, Mary Helen Owen, Harriet Anne Owen and Jack Harvey Owen. Robert is survived by his 3 children, April Owen Woyshner (Philip), Eric Ingersoll Owen (Mari) and Amy Owen Center (Tim); 3 grandchildren and 2 nieces.
Visitation services will not be held nor will there be a formal funeral service. He will be interred at the Tallahassee National Cemetery. A formal set of services will be held at a later time when events can be publicly and widely attended.
