HARGROVE, SR.
ROBERT. The giver and sustainer of life decided it was time for Bob Hargrove, 98, to come home. He passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011 in Tallahassee, FL. Bob was born to the late Robert Hargrove and Ora Hutchinson Hargrove on Mach 23, 1913. As a young man he lived with his aunt and uncle, Mabel and John Hargrove; their daughter Mary and her husband Horace G. Sparrow in Radnor, PA. He joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the SeeBees, serving in the Pacific until he was honorably discharged. He made a career of truck driving, was a Teamster and worked part time for The Philadelphia Inquirer until he retired at the age of 90.
He married the love of his life, Bessie Mae Giles on Sept. 11, 1948 and joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia, PA in 1951 and actively served there as a Steward until he and his wife left Pennsylvania to live with their daughter. Bob was a mason and a member of St. John's Lodge #44. Bob was an avid Phillies baseball fan and model train enthusiast; and was a member of Bing Bend Model Railroad Assoc. in Tallahassee.
His dear wife, Bessie and brothers, David A. Hargrove and William D. Hargrove of Hamden, Connecticut preceded him in death as well as his sister Pinkie (d. Lewis) Crute of Boynton, VA.
He is survived by his sisters, Naomi Roberta H. Davis Murray of Brooklyn, New York and Joyce Hope Hargrove Scott of New Haven, Connecticut, by his three children: Robert Franklin Hargrove (Harriett) of Allentown, PA, Beverly Jane Hargrove Martin McDonald (Walter) of Tallahassee, Florida and Bradley William Hargrove of Sharon Hill, PA, 12 grand children, 9 great grandchildren, Sister-in-law Vivian Giles (d. Samuel) of Philadelphia, brother-in-law, Charles Giles (Alice) of Willingboro, NJ, God-daughters Joan S. Smith and Irene L. Carter and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
