It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of RA Grimes, of Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday, July 4, 2020. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia G Grimes; daughter: Evelyn C White (Grimes); stepson: Daryl Kirk White; granddaughter: Madisen K White; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
RA was born in Enterprise, Alabama. He was raised in Tarpon Springs, Florida where he graduated high school. Shortly after high school RA volunteered for service in the U.S. Army for Viet-Nam as an MP for the Army Security Agency obtaining the rank of Specialist. After his honorable discharge from service he moved to Tallahassee, Florida.
RA attended college getting his AA degree in Police Administration at St Petersburg Junior College then quickly transferred to Florida State University for his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology. RA finished college with a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice at Nova University.
In 1973 he started working at Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a Crime Information Input Technician in CJIS and then pursued a dedicated law enforcement career as a Special Agent conducting special investigations, protection details for five Florida State Governor's. RA conducted many Internal Investigations within the Division of Criminal Justice Information Systems, Managed the Investigations and Audit Services Section auditing all criminal justice agencies in Florida with access to the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Network System, Florida Crime Information Center and the National Crime Information Center. As a Special Agent RA conducted independent and complex investigations focusing on fraud, public integrity, computer crime and the training of other Special Agents in investigations of various crimes.
After 31 years of public service he retired and continued to work at FDLE as a Reserve Agent until he was hired with DynaCorp to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom/ Iraqi Freedom. His responsibilities overseas were the training of the new Iraqi Security forces in law enforcement techniques and practices. Upon his return to his home in Florida he continued his law enforcement career while in retirement he volunteered his time and knowledge as a Reserve Investigator at Wakulla County Sheriff's Office.
Once fully retired RA enjoyed spending all his free time with his family every chance he got. He loved spoiling his favorite (and only) granddaughter Madisen taking her fishing, getting ice cream or going to the movies as often as possible. His presence in the lives of his family and friends will be deeply missed.
His Celebration of Life Service will be postponed until a future date where all his family and friends can safely attend together in consideration of the current Covid-19 crisis.
RA's Military Interment Service is open to anyone who would like to attend. It will be held on August 3rd, 2020 at 10:00am, located at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Florida 32311.
Flowers may be received before August 3rd in care of RA Grimes to 58 Eagles Ridge Drive, Crawfordville, Florida 32327.
