Dr. R. Enwood Ashmore, 89, of Havana, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 in Tallahassee. He was born in Gainesville, Florida on May 6, 1925 to John Henry and Nursie Whaley Ashmore. The tenth of eleven children, Dr. Ashmore grew up in the Wakulla County area. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Military and served proudly as a Marine aboard the USS Hornet in the South Pacific during World War II. After serving his country, Dr. Ashmore attended and graduated from Emory University with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery and practiced dentistry in the Tallahassee area for over 50 years. On June 30, 1946, Dr. Ashmore married the love of his life, June Gilmore. To this union 6 children were born. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Havana. In his spare time, he could be found at the golf course.
Dr. Ashmore is survived by his wife, June G. Ashmore; children, Julia A. Norman of Tallahassee, Robert Ashmore, Jr. (wife Diane) of Tallahassee, Susan A. Leach (husband David) of Chiefland, David W. Ashmore (wife Barbara) of Havana, Jane A. Reinert (husband Richard) of Tallahassee and Barbara Ashmore of New Port Richey; sisters, Sheryl Ferrell of Crawfordville and Newlin Nevis of Gainesville. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 6-8 pm at the Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel. Graveside services will be held, Friday, September 12, 2014 at 10 am at Tallahassee Memory Gardens, 4037 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee.
In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of Dr. Ashmore to a charity of one's choice.
