Petrina was born on September 12, 1978, in Hollywood, Florida to Kenneth Ray and Carolyn Uhl Tuttle. Petrina was an avid writer and musician from a young age and kept following those passions into college and throughout her adult life where she also picked up a love for the arts and photography. After graduating from South Broward High School in 1997, she attended Florida State University (FSU), graduating with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and minor in political science.
Petrina settled in Tallahassee after graduation and married Lee Herring in 2007. Together they raised two beautiful children while she also dedicated nearly 20 years of her career to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Petrina eventually found her professional calling as a researcher, grant writer, and consultant for the Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund in 2019, where she worked until her death. She was also elected to and served on the Advisory Council and Advisory Board of the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) where she advocated for policy changes, federal grant resources, and support for Florida’s rural sheriffs and counties.
Most importantly, Petrina loved her children and family, the beach, and watching her children excel in competitive sports. She was a proud FSU Seminole alumnus and enjoyed her time as a football mom and dance mom, cherishing the supportive friends and families she was blessed to have as part of these communities.
Petrina was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Tuttle. She is survived by her children, Daniel and Ashley; her husband of 18 years, Lee; her mother, Carolyn Tuttle Weaver (George); her sister, Rebecca Tuttle Villegas; nephew, Antonio Villegas; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
The family will receive family and friends to celebrate her life on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 3pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road.
The family warmly welcomes flowers at the service and memorial gifts can also be made to the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in Petrina’s name for gallbladder and cholangiocarcinoma cancer research.
