January 1, 2048 - November 21, 2024
Peggy Nell Stephens Workman, age 76, died in the presence of her loving family on Thursday, November 21, 2024 in Tallahassee, FL at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Peggy was born and raised in Tallahassee, FL. Even though she lived in Fort Lauderdale and Pensacola for short periods of her life, Tallahassee was always home. Peggy had a knack for insurance, at one point owning and operating four agencies. She was driven and had a good sense for business.
When she wasn’t working, Peggy enjoyed losing herself at the beach. Sometimes she could be found dragging chicken legs on a string while crabbing in brackish waters. Alternately, she loved to surf-fish while the hot sand reflected the sun, waves breaking at her feet. When Peggy went deep-sea fishing on the Gulf, she would turn her face to the sun as the wind blew through her hair. The salt air energized her, and she passed her love of all things beach and ocean to both her sons, all four of her grandchildren, and her great-grandchild.
Peggy is predeceased by her parents, Johnnie Perry Stephens and Dorothy Echols Stephens; her brother, Johnnie Perry Stephens, Jr.; her sister, Carolyn Stephens Wallace; and her husband, the love of her life, David McCain Workman. She is survived by her sister Deborah Stephens Kuper and husband Lyle (Greer, SC); her sister-in-law Sally Trott Stephens Sperling (Tallahassee, FL); sons, K. Scott Kremkau and wife Dawn (Greenwood, FL), W. Trent Mathers and wife Katie (Tallahassee, FL), her four grandchildren: Keely Mathers (Tallahassee, FL), Kaitlyn Kremkau (Monticello, FL), Todd Kremkau (Tallahassee, FL), and Rowan Mathers (Tallahassee, FL); and her great-grandson, Nathan S. Kremkau
(Monticello, FL).
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Culley’s MeadowWood Chapel, 1737 Riggins Road (850) 877-8191. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an organization that was dear to her heart: The National Parkinson’s Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136-1494 or www.parkinson.org.
