Dr. Owusu-Ansah Agyapong, 61, passed away on August 25, 2014, Tallahassee, Florida. Dr. Agyapong, a native of Adankwame, Ghana, was born on October 31, 1952. He was the son of the late Edward Kwasi Okyere and Yaa Owusuaah.
Dr. Agyapong came to the United States by way of North Carolina, where he attended Craven County Community College. He later moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he completed his undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees from the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Florida State University. He was a dedicated professor and former Chair, in Florida A&M University’s Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. He was a lifelong educator and believed in nurturing, teaching and mentoring students while involving the students’ families at the collegiate level. He was very passionate about everyone reaching their full potential.
Dr. Agyapong was a devout Christian who worshipped and served at Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More as a dedicated usher. His lists of accomplishments were voluminous. He was also involved in numerous activities in school, community and church.
Dr. Agyapong is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Dixon-Agyapong; his daughters: Nana Konadu Badu, Ema Agyapong, Ama Agyapong, Emma Okyere, Akua Sarpong; his sons: Kwaku Agyapong Jr. (who preceded him in death), Kwaku Sarpong; his granddaughter: Keisha Badu; 14 siblings from the United States, Ghana, Holland and Italy; and, a host of other relatives and friends from around the world.
